Curlfest 2019: Hot Girl Summer

Curlfest 2019 has a new home and folks showed up, turned up, and were serving looks at Randall’s Island. To summarize the event, it was alot of Brown Skin Girls enjoying their Hot Girl Summer, as well as the fellas too.

Two of my friends drove up from Pennsylvania to come to Curlfest for their first time.

The talent could be seen live in action as people watched @iamchelseanicole paint live amongst other talented artist.

Attendees of Curlfest alway slays their looks for head to toe and this year was no different; per usual my people did not come to PLAY! From the floor length braids & ponytails, big afros, floral hair accessories, colorful short and long hairstyles and my fellas with the beards; looks were being served from hair to toe.

I will admit, I do prefer when events like these are smaller and not so popular because I do get to enjoy myself a little more. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely happy for the founders of Curlfest and how big they were able to take this event to a global level; people travel from all over the world just to come to Curlfest; however I was not here for all of those lines.

If you’re planning on going to Curlfest in Atlanta in September or in New York for 2020, check out a few tips below that will make your time at Curlfest more convenient for you and your squad.

Curls Unleashed had one of the longest lines throughout the festival. Everyone at the booth look so chic in their pastel tutus and tees.

If you’re planning on going to Curlfest in Atlanta in September or in New York for 2020, check out a few tips below:

• Bring your own food, snacks, and drinks (non-alcoholic), alcohol is not allowed inside but wine & beer was sold for the first time ever this year. They did have a water station so you can refill your water bottle up if needed. If you’re ratchet like myself and my friend, fill up your water bottle with your favorite wine and walk right on in. One group had about 3 11 Piece Special box from Popeyes lol. I carried my cooloer and brought snacks, fruit, and water with me.

• Bring a blanket or chair and an umbrella to block the sun. (It was hot as hell this year).

• Try to arrive as early as possible to avoid the long lines to get inside the event and to take a picture of the Curlfest sign.

• If you plan on taking lots of pictures, vlogging, etc. bring a camera or portable charger with you so your phone won’t died, unless you are in VIP where they have a charging station.

• Bring cash just in case you want to purchase something from a vendor.

• Bring your business cards. Curlfest started as an event to embrace your blackness, the skin you’re in, and the natural hair tgat grows from tge roots of your head. However, many marco & mirco photographers, influencers, editors, and even celebrities come out to Curlfest; it’s a great networking event. When I went to Curlfest in 2017 in Prospect Park, Spike Lee was just chilling, talking, and talking pictures with fans.

• Don’t forget that sunscreens, bug repellent spray, and that hand sanitizer if you’re OCD like me.

• A portable speaker is good to bring if you end up sitting far away from the main stage where the music is playing.

• Remember this is a massive event, come with patience because you will wait in some kind of line unless you’re just there to chill with your friends.

Hope these tips were helpful!
